Belgian electronic project Cubic has put out two digital EPs through Alfa Matrix, “CB-708” and “CB-128,” both dated 13 February 2026. Each takes the same three songs from the album “Back to 808”: “CB-708” presents them as brisk 7-inch edits, while “CB-128” stretches them into longer 12-inch versions made for the club.
Both EPs are digital-only. “CB-708” and “CB-128” are available now on the Alfa Matrix store, and each has its own page for streaming on Bandcamp: CB-708 and CB-128.
How the twin EPs came about
The pair grows straight out of “Back to 808,” a 2025 album that took Cubic’s 2024 release “Back to Basic” apart and rebuilt it. Passenger S of 808 Dot Pop worked from the original stems plus some newly recorded parts, giving the songs his own 808-centred treatment. That mirrors an earlier swap in the other direction, when Franky Deblomme took on 808 Dot Pop’s songs for “The Cubic Temperature.”
The three tracks, in two formats
CB-708, the 7-inch edits:
- “Computer Controlled (off)” (3:52)
- “Burned CPU (low thermal throttling)” (3:34)
- “Motor Bass City (the d-small)” (3:34)
CB-128, the 12-inch versions:
- “Computer Controlled (on)” (7:18)
- “Burned CPU (high thermal throttling)” (6:28)
- “Motor Bass City (the d-large)” (6:00)
About Cubic
Cubic is the vehicle of Belgian producer Franky Deblomme, who arrived at it after a spell in the EBM group Darkmen. His music is hardware-driven, built around synthesizers and drum machines, and its roots lie in the electro lineage of Düsseldorf, whose best-known ambassador is Kraftwerk.
Deblomme joined the Alfa Matrix roster in early 2021 and opened with the EP “Alphabet Hymn.” Shortly afterwards came “The Cubic Temperature,” a cross-project album on which he recast tracks from Passenger S, known from 808 Dot Pop and Metroland. Mid-2021 brought his first full album, “The Cubic Alphabet,” and the year ended with the EP “Phonic Lessons Part 3.”
A run of place-themed EPs came in 2022, beginning with “Exit: Frankfurt” and continuing with “Exit: Ghent” and “Exit: Manchester,” and in the same year Deblomme contributed a remix to Side-Line’s charity single “Ukraina.” Ahead of “Back to Basic” (2024) he released the digital EPs “c64” and “c128.” The album’s stems then went to Passenger S (808 Dot Pop, Metroland), who reinterpreted the whole record as “Back to 808,” and the EP “EFM02” came next. More on the project is gathered on the Cubic tag page.
