Implant releases ‘I’m Only Happy When You Bleed’ EP

Implant – I’m Only Happy When You Bleed cover art (Alfa Matrix, 2026)

The latest release from Belgian EBM act Implant is an eight-track EP, “I’m Only Happy When You Bleed”, released on 2 October 2026 via Alfa Matrix. It gives an early look at album number fifteen, “The Kinematics Of Doubt”, due from the label on 30 October.

The EP comes as a digital release, available now on the Alfa Matrix store and on the label’s Bandcamp page.

A second look at the new album

The title track comes after “Underneath The Neon Lights”, the lead single, as the next song unveiled ahead of “The Kinematics Of Doubt”. It is built around a 3/4 rhythm, with electronic layers that keep evolving over a shifting pulse, while the lyrics explore control, cruelty and enforced submission.

What fills out the rest of the EP

The record opens with “Information Systems”, a lengthy soundscape put together solely from spoken samples on the mythology of computing. Further in, “Pills (in f sharp)” recasts the album track “Pills” in another key, so that its “I want more pills” refrain doubles as a chant and as commentary on the search for quick fixes. “The Insider” deals with privileged knowledge, and with how much of what passes for fact may really be interpretation or assumption. The lead single, “Underneath The Neon Lights”, is on the EP as well.

Three reworkings of the title track

Crash Course In Science, a New York act, steers the song towards the dancefloor as a club-minded track. People Theatre opt for a more tuneful approach, with a detuned lead taking over later on. Aiboforcen, a fellow Belgian act on the label, supplies the third version, which Alfa Matrix says is distinctly theirs while remaining anchored in Implant’s sound.

The album and a joint launch night

“The Kinematics Of Doubt” has fourteen tracks and is issued on CD and in digital form. Alongside the EP’s title track and “Underneath The Neon Lights”, it includes “The Observer Effect”, “Civilization”, “Sanity” and “Wounds”, among others. Implant and Llumen are staging a joint launch for their albums on 20 November 2026 at mOtown in Sint-Joost-ten-Node, Belgium.

About Implant

In recent years the project has been busy with the “Chaos Machines” trilogy. Its closing part, the album “Judging Sinners – The Chaos Machines Part 3”, arrived on 7 February 2025 and features Noemi Aurora. Part 2, the limited vinyl EP “The Chaos Machines Part 2 – Scratching The Surface”, came out in September 2024, and the trilogy began in May 2024 with the twelfth studio record, “The Chaos Machines Part 1 – No More Flies On The Windscreen”, which takes a modular-synth approach and includes a duet with Noemi Aurora. Shortly before that, in December 2023, the free download single “The Drive” was given away.

Further back, the project’s sound has ranged from dark synth and electro-pop to industrial dance and harsh EBM, as heard on “Implantology”, “Audio Blender”, “The Productive Citizen” and the EP “Fading Away”. Most of its releases end on the line “Did you have your Implant today?”

Implant began in Belgium in 1996 as the electro-industrial project of Len Lemeire. That same year the debut CD single “Fun”, credited to Lemeire together with Geert Machtelinck, was pressed as a numbered edition of 1,000 copies. More Alfa Matrix releases are collected on the label’s Bandcamp page.
