808 Dot Pop, the solo project Passenger S runs alongside Metroland, has a pair of albums on the way: “Minimalism” and “Maximalism,” both scheduled for 30 November 2026 through Alfa Matrix. Together they hold 18 tracks inspired by 20th-century architecture, and a three-track digital EP released on 25 September 2026 serves as a prelude.
Both records can already be pre-ordered from the Alfa Matrix store, “Minimalism” and “Maximalism” on CD, and digital editions have their own pages on Bandcamp: “Minimalism” and “Maximalism”.
Architecture as the blueprint
The label gives the two records opposite colour identities, white for “Minimalism” and black for “Maximalism.” After Habitat 67 sparked his curiosity, Passenger S read up on architecture through books, essays and videos, then wrote both albums around the forms and moods of particular buildings and movements. As the label tells it, each sound and stereo placement was picked deliberately, so that space, repetition and restraint weigh as much as melody and rhythm. The buildings are spread over seven countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Spain and the UK. Fans of Kraftwerk, Komputer and Orbital are named as the intended audience.
A three-track EP opens the campaign
Released on 25 September 2026 as a digital-only download, “minimalism EP” can also be found in the store. Its blurb talks of grooves and analogue sequences that repeat with slight human variation, treating rhythm and space as partners, and it draws on three buildings: the Koshino House, the AT&T Long Lines Building and the Farnsworth House. The tracks:
- “minimalism (farnsworth house)” (2:58)
- “contextualism (at&t long lines)” (3:31)
- “minimalism (koshino house)” (5:47)
Our earlier report on the four-video series that led up to the albums shows how individual tracks were tied to landmark buildings, and it notes two fan-shop items: “Foundationalism,” a bonus EP on an NFC-equipped card, and “Essentialism,” a 72-page companion book.
Nine buildings per album
Every title pairs an architectural “-ism” with the building behind it.

About 808 Dot Pop
Sven Lauwers, who records as Passenger S and plays in the Belgian synth-pop duo Metroland, runs 808 Dot Pop as a solo outlet. He started it to work beyond “the Metroland bubble,” aiming for something lighter and more playful: a techno-pop sound with a Düsseldorf influence, the Roland TR-808 drum machine that lends the project its name, warm analogue sequences and melodic synth layers.
The previous album cycle began in March 2023 around a “Pop Radio” concept, with every release named after a broadcast frequency: “FM88.2” and “AM1350” on CD, “MW720” as a download, and two EPs, “FM101.4” and “AM685”. A double EP, “FM96.9” and “AM1040”, followed in June. The concept began when Passenger S asked OMD’s Andy McCluskey for permission to cover “Radio Waves,” then widened into research on radio history that goes as far back as the crystal-radio tests of Guglielmo Marconi. The CD albums were shaped as continuous “broadcast” listens; Lis van den Akker guests on vocals, and Gary Hunter of Kraftman shares a co-writing credit.
Further back, the debut album “The Colour Temperature” appeared on Alfa Matrix in 2020, after the singles “Blackbodies – pulsation”, “Blackbodies – variation” and “Jingle Pop”. A limited 7-inch vinyl release and more singles arrived that same year, and in 2022 four singles were released at once to mark Bandcamp Friday. Labelmate Cubic has linked up with the project too: its rework album “Back To 808” appeared in December 2025, and the twin EPs “CB-708” and “CB-128” followed in February 2026. The last time 808 Dot Pop put out studio albums was the 2023 “Pop Radio” cycle. More from the label is on the Alfa Matrix Bandcamp.
