808 DOT POP – solo project of Belgian electronic pop / vintage synth music producer Passenger S (METROLAND) returns with another conceptual and inspiring sonic journey.
Passenger S invites you on a historical journey ‘around the world (and back)’ through his latest conceptual piece of work. From Spain, Canada, Japan, Germany, the UK and France to Australia, he guides the listener through a series of places shaped by the defining architectural movements of the 20th century.
Diving deep into the many isms of modern architecture, the listener will discover a rich collection of remarkable buildings that have left a lasting imprint on landscapes around the world. These architectural structures, both iconic and overlooked, form the foundation of this new sonic exploration.
Ignited by the renowned Habitat 67, Passenger S (known for his relentless curiosity) immersed himself in literature, essays and video material, studying architectural landmarks and hidden gems alike. As he wandered through urban environments shaped by functionality, clarity and modernist ideals, he began composing sounds inspired by the forms and atmospheres that moved him most.
In doing so, he embraced a deliberately minimalist approach that mirrors the architectural philosophy he so admires. Just as modernist architects stripped away excess to reveal pure form, he applies the same discipline to his sound, structure and composition.
The result unfolds across two companion albums: “Maximalism” (this black album) and “Minimalism” (the white album). Across no less than 18 tracks, every sound, left or right stereo effect, was chosen with intent, allowing space, repetition, and restraint to play an important role alongside melody and rhythm.
This dual approach defines the sonic language of both albums, where simplicity and complexity coexist in aural balance. Rather than overwhelming the listener, Passenger S his signature soothing sequences and compelling rhythms invite close attention to detail, texture and structure, much like architecture itself rewards those who take the time to truly observe it.
