808 Dot Pop – AM 685 EP

808 Dot Pop - AM 685 EP

After the much applauded solo album, “The Colour Temperature” (and its companion remix album, “The Cubic Temperature”), METROLAND’s Passenger S switched on the radio again to deliver two airwave shows full of vintage electronics, a next must-have on the electronic menu of any lovers of melodic synth lines, analogue drum machines and soothing sounds intertwined with Dusseldorf spices, but served here by a Belgian sequence cook.

“FM101.4” and “AM 685” both offer a first sonic insight to the two upcoming 808 DOT POP conceptual albums “FM 88.2 and “AM 1350” with the main song “Marconi” being a sweet pop melody in conjunction with the mesmerizing and enchanting vocals of none other than Lis van den Akker, with whom Passenger S already happily worked with on his “SunCatcher” release project.

The combination of a compelling voice and synthetic sounds results in an ear catching tune about the “master of waves”, Guglielmo Marconi, who paved way for an enormous amount of applications in the modern era.

808 DOT POP’s “Marconi” will be released in two different download sets, a 3-track EP entitled “FM 101.4”, holding the single version of ‘Marconi’ (aptly entitled ‘on the radio’) backed with the song ‘The Detector’, which also features the soothing voice of Lis Van Den Akker and a 4-track maxi EP entitled ‘AM 685’, holding two extended versions, a remix with a clear wink to Passenger S and his love for an 80s band and his favourite 12inch (one of their 1983 songs was the very start of the entire concept), and an exclusive 3rd song entitled ‘Voices’, all referencing to the album’s concept.

Cubic – Exit – Manchester EP

Cubic - Exit - Manchester EP

After two exciting stops in Frankfurt and Ghent, Belgian studio guru Franky Deblomme carries us to the final destination of his “Exit” sonic journey: Manchester!

With the conceptual approach of revisiting his personal past influences, this time CUBIC brings us to the aftermath of the rave scene in which Manchester was a pioneering scene introducing emerging influential acts in the likes of ORBITAL, SYSTEM 7, 808STATE or yet APHEX TWIN, all of which shaped the foundation of CUBIC’s music roots.

The opener “Atlantic State” immediately evokes the early 90’s with its early 808STATE type of atmosphere: chill vibe, summer feeling, breakbeats… Pure nostalgia! The rave party continues then with the 2 “Polygon” tracks bringing us closer to ORBITAL and the unavoidable APHEX TWIN!

The EP then gets augmented by a floor packing remix by Peter Bellaert (known as MINIMALISTIX and also his recent retro-House project RETRO BELGICA) that could nicely fit in a DJ set list of MACEO PLEX or KOLSH. Last but not least comes the second remix by LECTREAU, the solo-project of Passenger A of METROLAND fame.

Die Robo Sapiens – Robo Sapien Race 2CD

Die Robo Sapiens – Robo Sapien Race 2CD

The album’s first pressing comes out as a limited deluxe double-CD Digipak holding a bonus disc featuring each album song remixed by an impressive list of electro artists in the likes of Sebastian Komor, ORANGE SECTOR, PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE, METROLAND, AIBOFORCEN, AD:KEY, IMPLANT, AESTHETISCHE, KANT KINO and CUBIC.

After a couple of teasing EP & video clip releases, ladies and gentlemen, Alfa Matrix is proud to present to you today the much awaited full length album by the new ultimate EBM project by the members of one of the cult electro industrial music pioneers of all times next to KRAFTWERK and EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN: DIE KRUPPS’ very own Jürgen Engler and his fellow members Ralf Dörper and Marcel Zürcher!

The idea for them was to have an outlet for songs that couldn’t be used in a DIE KRUPPS context. The use of guitars in ROBO SAPIENS music being taboo! ‘In a way, it’s a return to our Electro roots, but with a twist. Imagine the Duesseldorf sound of KRAFTWERK mixed with hard DIE KRUPPS EBM. This combination of styles has been spooking around my brain for a while, and it was time to put it into action,’ Juergen Engler says.

This stunning 10-track “Robo Sapien Race” album offers the perfect blend of minimal, vintage and outstanding powerful synth music with harder, stronger and angrier EBM assaults made of fat and ripping basslines, powerful German vocals and upbeat synth sequences. The result proves that DIE ROBO SAPIENS have already found their own niche, which Electro fans from both genres will surely appreciate!

“Robo Sapien Race” is also presenting a conceptual background about the dehumanization and technological dependency of mankind… without it you are nothing… so conform or revolt! A futuristic atmosphere perfectly rendered by the talented Japanese designer Tomoki Hayasaki.

T.A.N.Z… T.A.N.Z… Tanz mit DIE ROBO SAPIENS! Volle EBM Kraft Voraus!

Cubic – Exit – Ghent EP

Cubic - Exit - Ghent EP

Like Belgian artist Franky Deblomme always claimed with his CUBIC project, he distils his own eclectic influences within the wide spectrum of electronic music into a fireworks display of melodic techno, minimal synth pop, hypnotic trance and 808 electro with a darkish touch of underground body music in the background.

With the “Exit” series, CUBIC demonstrates that the influential view that “man is the product of his environment”, so forcefully stated by Hippocrates, can also apply to musicians.

After a first exciting stop in Frankfurt with the first edition, we were all wondering what would be the next CUBIC sonic destination. On this second chapter “Exit: Ghent”, CUBIC revisits his past influences and tributes the city of Ghent (Belgium) that so much influenced his personal music tastes and therefore influenced and shaped the foundation of his music.

Although Ghent already played an important role during the New Beat period, the seeds for what would later become what we know today as “electronic music” really started to blossom in the early 90s. “In 92, when I went to study in Ghent , I was at the right place at the right time to see the whole culture blossom. Although we were still in the grunge and guitars era in terms of mainstream music, electro started to bubble up. Ghent was then the home of some iconic record labels (Music Man, R&S records), specialised record shops, small bars and (after-)clubs (such as Zodiac, Les Enfants Terribles, etc)”. Remembers Franky.

This new 4-track EP carries the perfect summer vibes which remind us all that it’s not for nothing that Belgium is so famous for hosting the best and most prestigious electronic festivals. With fairy tale vocals and a main carrying melody that sticks in your mind in a fraction of a second, the opening track “Argon” instantly sets the mood! And the club feel intimacy simply gets underlined by “One For Greg”, evoking the Zodiac parties of the 90’s. “This track is dedicated to a good friend of mine who died far too young. In the early 90’s we used to visit the Zodiac club in the center of Ghent. These DJ’s inspired me. Definitely one of the reasons I got involved in electronic music later…”, Adds Franky with a certain nostalgia. “Hold On” taks us one step further incorporating elements of dance, techno and trance, capturing the essence of the iconic Belgian clubs of the time! Last but not least, this EP features once again other Belgian guests behind the remixing console, with none other than METROLAND fame turning “Asteroids” into a lush epic 9-minute plus version divided into 2 parts with a stunning tempo change.

Crisp, phat and trancey: this is the sound of C…UBIC.

Ready for the next exit after these good old Belgian electro club memories? I got my ticket to the next destination!

808 DOT POP – (Lectreau) Suncatcher EP

808 DOT POP - (Lectreau) Suncatcher EP

The vintage soundscapes that emanate from Passenger S and his machines are entwined here with the sparkling master voice from none less than Lis Van den akker making this 3 track EP a bliss for the lovers of electronic pop music.

‘Catching The Sun’ is originally from the hand of label mate Psy’Aviah and was re-arranged by 808 DOT POP during the summer of 2021 to coincide with the celebration album for the 20 years of Psy’Aviah.

This 3-track EP is part of a series of 4 different releases revealing the same song(s) from an all-new sonic perspective and offering them a different shed of light…

This one features a unique set of ‘Lectreau’ versions (the side project of Passenger S his Metroland partner in crime Passenger A) showing the strength of “Catching The Sun” from another kaleidoscope angle.

Rector Scanner – Das Mädchen aus dem All EP I

Rector Scanner - Das Mädchen aus dem All EP I

Berlin-based vintage electronic project RECTOR SCANNER (retro science-fiction pop side-project of the EBM duo AD:KEY) release today two complementary twin-EP’s under the title “Das Mädchen aus dem All”.

The EP1 edition offers us 6 new versions/remixes of tracks taken from the band’s recent and highly claimed comeback album “Radioteleskop” plus the exclusive intergalactic synthetic instrumental “Sternenschiffe”. This includes the “single” and maxi “andromendanebel” versions of the title song as well as upbeat remixes by DATAPOP and METROLAND, plus new editions of “Utopia” and the unmatchable “Epsilon Tucanae”.

RECTOR SCANNER play vintage electronic music with vocoders and German-sung synth music evoking an exciting mixture of KRAFTWERK’s robotic electronics, AND ONE’s danceable techno pop and WELLE:ERDBALL’s 80’s melodic mechanical synthpop touch.

Rector Scanner – Radioteleskop 2CD

Rector Scanner - Radioteleskop 2CD

Founded in 1997, RECTOR SCANNER was actually the very first music project of Berlin-based artist Rene Nowotny who then redirected all his energy over the last years on his more EBM-oriented band AD:KEY together with his wife Andrea.

In 2021, RECTOR SCANNER returns from a 15 year intergalactic travel to reveal their much anticipated 3rd studio album “Radioteleskop” on which the German duo shares with us what they discovered and encountered in the depths of space. Strongly influenced by science- and social-fiction literature from the early 20th century and novelists in the likes of Russian author Ivan Yefremov, RECTOR SCANNER tackles existential questioning of mankind’s origins and whether other forms of life exist somewhere in the universe…

Across some 11 short stories, RECTOR SCANNER report about their exciting journey, connecting the present and the future and carrying us away in the electronic realms of a distant world utopia, somewhere between the blue planet, the icy shores of Titan, the solitary star of Epsilon Tucanae and the Andromeda galaxy, where we encounter artificial intelligence, intergalactic communications within the great ring of civilizations and perhaps the impossible distant love affair between an Earth scientist and an alien.

Since its origins, RECTOR SCANNER always inscribed their sonic approach in the tradition of electronic music pioneers like KRAFTWERK and also KOMPUTER or MISS KITTIN. This is vintage electronic music with vocoders and German-sung synth music in line with WELLE:ERDBALL and AND ONE. RECTOR SCANNER indeed plays retro science-fiction pop music and invites you to dance electronically to their addictive catchy and almost mechanical tunes. Human vocals meet synthetic vocoders, clinking synthesizers play minimal percolating analogue melodies while robotic rhythms get your body in motion in no time.

The double-CD limited edition of the album also features an 11-track bonus disc with various exclusive versions and diverse exciting collaborations with METROLAND, 808 DOT POP, MASSIV IN MENSCH, AD:KEY , LETAL 30 as well as an extraordinary sensual featuring of toitronic electropunk diva Merry Chicklit.

Also notice the perfectly fitting design work by artist, illustrator and theatre actor Thomas Franke.
