Rector Scanner – Radioteleskop 2CD

Rector Scanner - Radioteleskop 2CD

Founded in 1997, RECTOR SCANNER was actually the very first music project of Berlin-based artist Rene Nowotny who then redirected all his energy over the last years on his more EBM-oriented band AD:KEY together with his wife Andrea.

In 2021, RECTOR SCANNER returns from a 15 year intergalactic travel to reveal their much anticipated 3rd studio album “Radioteleskop” on which the German duo shares with us what they discovered and encountered in the depths of space. Strongly influenced by science- and social-fiction literature from the early 20th century and novelists in the likes of Russian author Ivan Yefremov, RECTOR SCANNER tackles existential questioning of mankind’s origins and whether other forms of life exist somewhere in the universe…

Across some 11 short stories, RECTOR SCANNER report about their exciting journey, connecting the present and the future and carrying us away in the electronic realms of a distant world utopia, somewhere between the blue planet, the icy shores of Titan, the solitary star of Epsilon Tucanae and the Andromeda galaxy, where we encounter artificial intelligence, intergalactic communications within the great ring of civilizations and perhaps the impossible distant love affair between an Earth scientist and an alien.

Since its origins, RECTOR SCANNER always inscribed their sonic approach in the tradition of electronic music pioneers like KRAFTWERK and also KOMPUTER or MISS KITTIN. This is vintage electronic music with vocoders and German-sung synth music in line with WELLE:ERDBALL and AND ONE. RECTOR SCANNER indeed plays retro science-fiction pop music and invites you to dance electronically to their addictive catchy and almost mechanical tunes. Human vocals meet synthetic vocoders, clinking synthesizers play minimal percolating analogue melodies while robotic rhythms get your body in motion in no time.

The double-CD limited edition of the album also features an 11-track bonus disc with various exclusive versions and diverse exciting collaborations with METROLAND, 808 DOT POP, MASSIV IN MENSCH, AD:KEY , LETAL 30 as well as an extraordinary sensual featuring of toitronic electropunk diva Merry Chicklit.

Also notice the perfectly fitting design work by artist, illustrator and theatre actor Thomas Franke.

808 Dot Pop – Ultraviolet (Phototonic) EP

808 Dot Pop - Ultraviolet (Phototonic) EP

“Ultraviolet” is surely the best choice 808 DOT POP could make as single taken from the collaboration album he made with CUBIC “The Cubic Temperature”. Its high level of danceability and its hypnotizing pulsating beats and sequences perfectly represent that stunning album!

Next to the “photonic” extended version of this collaborative effort, Passenger S also delivers his own 12” interpretation of this track with the other exclusive “suntanned” version. While label mates IMPLANT and MY.COSMO both offer stunning freewheel reinterpretation of the song.

“The Cubic Temperature” is the fruitful result of a unique collaboration between 808 DOT POP (aka Passenger S of METROLAND fame) and Belgian electronic music veteran Franky Deblomme and his new CUBIC project. What was bound to be a one-shot remix collaboration turned into a full sonic adventure, proving that a daring concept, simple in set-up, has so much to offer once the magic operates and two talents unite and demonstrate that 1 + 1 can make 3.

Note that the “Ultraviolet” single comes in 3 different download sets with a 7” single, this 12” EP with remixes from label mates IMPLANT and from MY.COSMO. This latter delivered a magnificent classical interpretation of the song which was a trigger for Passenger S to remodel his two favorite classic songs from composers Erik Satie and Johan Pachelbel for the 3rd EP “808 DOT POP goes classic” version.

Next to the “pentatonic” radio edit of this collaborative effort, Passenger S also delivers his own club formatted interpretation of this track with the other exclusive “untanned” version.

808 DOT POP – The Cubic Temperature CD

808 DOT POP - The Cubic Temperature CD

“The Cubic Temperature” is the fruitful result of a unique collaboration between 808 DOT POP (aka Passenger S of METROLAND fame) and Belgian electronic music veteran Franky Deblomme and his new CUBIC project. What was bound to be a one-shot remix collaboration when CUBIC remixed the track “Kelvin” for 808 DOT POP’s last 7” vinyl release, turned into a full sonic adventure!

Fascinated by the new electro dimensions that CUBIC injected into his own songs, Passenger S started wondering how it would sound like if one and the same artist would entirely remodel one of his albums.  Appropriating and morphing every song into his own musical universe while keeping bits and pieces from the original versions. The originality of the concept seduced Franky Deblomme and CUBIC embarked on this challenging sonic journey, reworking tracks from the much applauded 808 DOT POP album “The Colour Temperature” and related singles.

Songs like “Ultraviolet”, “Illuminants”, singles like “Blackbodies” and “Kelvin”, but also B-sides like “Seeing Heat” or “Cie 1960” were entirely remodeled, stretched towards a more LEFTFIELD / ORBITAL kind of sound while showing the biggest respect and keeping the right identity and original sound flavors from 808 DOT POP’s characteristic warm melodic vintage synth style.

From the first note onwards up until the last, the listeners get immersed in a bath of luscious electronics. Musically taken on a ride where after each crispy note another vibrant joy is waiting, clearly holding the CUBIC watermark, with a tiny 808 flavor.

“The Cubic Temperature” proves that a daring concept, simple in set-up, has so much to offer once the magic operates and two talents unite and demonstrate that 1 + 1 can make 3…
