Fresh music is on the way from Miseria Ultima. The Finnish dark electro act, part of the Alfa Matrix roster, is preparing the successor to 2024’s “Arctic Esotericism”: the songs are close to being mixed, and more studio time is booked for late June 2026.

While waiting, “Arctic Esotericism” is available now on the Alfa Matrix store and can be streamed on Bandcamp. A taste of the new material, “Northern Skin,” appears on “Sounds From The Matrix 026”, which is also on Bandcamp.

What the band says about the new songs

Vocalist Aleksi Martikainen says the new songs lean on the North as a theme, keeping the gentle-yet-striking synths and chilly melodies of earlier records while adding fresh touches in the singing and the arrangements. In his view it is a natural next step that digs deeper into the duo’s own sound, and a philosophical rather than stylistic return to their beginnings.

Preview, visuals and concerts

The first taste arrived on 19 June 2026 with “Northern Skin,” included on Alfa Matrix’s sampler “Sounds From The Matrix 026,” a collection of teasers for records due later in the year. Visuals are planned too: promotional pictures were taken in Tornio in spring 2026, and both a video clip and a lyric video are in the pipeline. The record has no title or date yet. On the live side, the band has confirmed concerts across Finland, Germany and the Czech Republic.

About Miseria Ultima

Miseria Ultima’s latest album, “Arctic Esotericism”, was released on 6 September 2024 on CD digipak and digitally, and it is their fourth. It followed the third album, “In Colors of Void”, and the EP “Witch Heart Apparition”, both issued after the duo joined the Belgian label Alfa Matrix in 2022.

The project dates from 2016, when Martikainen and synth player Kimmo Huhtala started it in Finnish Lapland. After the 2017 demo “Unfocus,” Advoxya Records put out the first album, “Phosphor,” that same year, and “Graygarden” followed in 2019. The sound combines dark electro with aggrotech and EBM, resting on harsh beats and distorted vocals.
