Released simultaneously with its twin EP “CB-128”, “CB-708” by CUBIC vs. 808 DOT POP presents the sharp, compact counterpart to CUBIC’s “Back to 808” project. Both EPs spotlight the same three tracks, each offering a different perspective – short-form immediacy here, extended dancefloor exploration on the companion release.

“Back to 808” itself was born from a unique role reversal between long-time collaborators: after CUBIC had previously reworked METROLAND’s “The Colour Temperature”, Passenger S of 808 DOT POP / METROLAND reshaped “Back to Basic” into a retro-futuristic synth voyage where vintage electronics, melody, and technology merge seamlessly.

On “CB-708”, these songs appear in alternative 7” versions, tighter and more direct than the album cuts. Focused on hooks, structure, and instant impact, they reconnect CUBIC’s refined synth pop with classic single-format efficiency – a perfect entry point back into the “Back to 808” universe.

Released on the same day as “CB-708”, “CB-128” forms the dancefloor-oriented twin of this dual EP concept by CUBIC vs. 808 DOT POP.

Released on the same day as “CB-708”, “CB-128” forms the dancefloor-oriented twin of this dual EP concept by CUBIC vs. 808 DOT POP. Featuring the same three tracks in extended 12” versions, this release completes the picture by expanding grooves, sequences, and low-end pressure.

Rooted in the “Back to 808” album — Passenger S’s deep reimagining of CUBIC’s “Back to Basic” using original stems, newly recorded melodies, and the unmistakable 808 DOT POP aesthetic – these versions lean into movement and immersion. They allow CUBIC’s retro-futuristic synth language to unfold fully, balancing melodic sophistication with club-ready dynamics.

Together with “CB-708”, “CB-128” brings “Back to 808” back into the spotlight – not as a remix project, but as a living, breathing collaboration between friends, machines, and decades of electronic heritage.

What happens when two long-time friends and partners in sound once again switch roles in their creative playground? After CUBIC had completely reimagined “The Colour Temperature” into the acclaimed “Cubic Temperature” album, it is now Passenger S of 808 DOT POP (also one half of cult vintage synth act METROLAND) who takes on the challenge of reshaping CUBIC’s “Back to Basic” into a brand-new sonic entity: “Back to 808”.

This is not your average remix album. Loaded with CUBIC’s original stems – kicks, hi-hats, bass sequences, and effects – and fused with freshly recorded melodies, sequences, and samples, “Back to 808” elevates itself into something more profound: an 808 DOT POP album in all but name.

Faithful to the band’s trademark DNA, “Back to 808” unveils a more melodic, intricate, and immersive dimension of CUBIC’s work, prioritizing the listening experience over the dancefloor punch. It’s a seamless blend of retro-futuristic synths, vocoder textures, and electronic storytelling rooted in the aesthetic universe of 808 DOT POP.

Across 11 tracks — from the transformed “Art In,” “Human Computer,” “Offline,” and “Titt,” to the exclusive “2MFHD” – every piece has been reimagined with meticulous precision. The result is a hypnotic, conceptual voyage where technology and melody intertwine, celebrating both the past and the future of electronic pop.

Visually, the album artwork stays faithful to the retro-commemorative C64 aesthetic of “Back to Basic”, yet cleverly adapts to reflect its rebirth under the “Back to 808” identity.

A conceptual collaboration, a respectful reinvention, and above all a celebration of friendship through sound, “Back to 808” is destined to delight every fan of 808 DOT POP and lovers of finely crafted synth music alike.

Hot on the heels of their sold-out vinyl experiment “EFM01”, Belgian electro act CUBIC returns with “EFM02”, a digital EP that both complements the exclusive vinyl 12” and expands the sonic universe unveiled on the recent “Back to Basics” album.

Across 7 tracks, “EFM02” captures the essence of CUBIC’s trademark sound: 808-style drum programming, hypnotic bass modulation, computerized vocals and razor-sharp sequencing – all injected with rave energy, breakbeats and four-to-the-floor drive. Opening cuts “Binary Code” and “Nanobots” are pure electro bangers, while “OFM” and “My Home Computer” appear here in fresh alternative versions, reshaping the vinyl takes for the digital realm. “TCM” pushes further into club territory – a dark, relentless dance track that wouldn’t feel out of place in a set by THE HACKER, while RT28XO evolves from a shelved demo into a fully fleshed-out exclusive electro weapon. Closing the EP, the long-awaited original mix of “I Travel” reveals its darker, more industrial core, driven entirely by the Modor DR2 drum computer.

Like “EFM01”, the artwork for “EFM02” is a direct nod to the Modor DR2, underlining the band’s deep connection to analog machines and hardware aesthetics.

For those who missed out on the strictly limited vinyl, “EFM02” is your chance to experience the full spectrum of CUBIC’s uncompromising electro vision – raw, precise, and designed for both the dancefloor and the underground.

Electro heads, this is your red‑alert moment! Belgian CUBIC have carved their new manifesto straight into wax, but they only pressed 100 copies worldwide – once they’re gone, the signal goes dark forever. Hot on the heels of the “Back to Basics” album, this special 12‑inch turbo‑charges the band’s chrome‑bright electro vision with five brand‑new, vinyl‑exclusive tracks. Side A opens with COMMUTER’s stunning re‑work of “I Travel”, a quintessential slice of French electro that would slot seamlessly into a peak‑hour set by The Hacker or Miss Kittin, complete with slithering bass line, four‑to‑the‑floor kick and shimmering strings. It’s followed by “My Home Computer,” pure vocoder‑drenched funk that taps straight into every KRAFTWERK kid’s central nervous system.

Flip to the B‑side and brace yourself: ACIDULANT from Malta detonates an 808 warhead under “I Travel”, guaranteed to rip open any dance floor, before CUBIC glide into “OFM”, a melodic late‑night cruiser that proves you can still be lush while staying 100 % electro. MILLIMETRIC then drags “I Travel” down into the steel‑grey shadows of Düsseldorf, twisting the groove into something darker, harder, irresistible.

Every record comes housed in artwork inspired by the legendary Modor DRM1 drumcomputer – designed with Modor’s own blessing. You can only snag this black‑vinyl beauty directly from CUBIC, the official Alfa Matrix store, and some selected e-shops.

So don’t over‑think it: act. Hit that order button, lock in your copy, and be one of the lucky hundred to drop the needle on CUBIC’s most combustible cuts yet. When the last unit ships, this edition is history – grab yours before someone else rewinds your future.

Belgian electronic artist Franky Deblomme is set to unleash CUBIC’s highly anticipated “Back To Basic” album, following the release of two tantalizing 2-track EPs titled “c64” and “c128” paying homage to the iconic Commodore computers. This musical journey promises an explosive fusion of 808 drums, KRAFTWERK percussions, and nostalgic 80’s computer vibes (personal computers, floppy disks, and basic computer language programming).

CUBIC’s latest offering stays true to its roots, relying solely on hardware synths, drum computers, and effects featuring relentless basslines, vocoder voices, and 4/4 kicks – the unmistakable sound of C-UBIC.

The opening track, “Computer Alphabet,” not only sets the tone but also serves as a nod to the first CUBIC full album, “The CUBIC Alphabet.” Vocals are delivered by the iconic Speak and Spell computer from Mattel, adding a touch of retro charm. Classic electro tracks pay homage to the genre’s resurgence in the 90s channelling influences from Anthony Rother, Dopplereffect, and Cybotron., while modern twists in ‘ART INN’ and ‘Pleasure Machine’ blend electro, techno, and EBM.

“Back To Basic” also boasts the unique use of the first Belgian Drumcomputer (Modor DR2) and its synthesizer counterpart (Modor NF1), complemented by an arsenal of hardware gear allowing CUBIC to create a unique sonic palette that transcends boundaries, setting the tone for an electrifying future.

This is the unmistakable and timeless sound of C-UBIC – a sonic experience not to be missed.

Titled after the legendary Commodore C128, this EP is the obvious logical successor to the previous “c64” EP.

The new EP features exclusive club oriented and extended versions of “Art In” and “Human Computer”. While “MF2HD” is an exclusive non-album track, CUBIC takes us by surprise by releasing a powerful EBM/industrial dance mix of “B C L” by label-mates DIFFUZION reminding us of the diversity of CUBIC’s electronic sound.

Belgian electronic artist Franky Deblomme announces the forthcoming release of CUBIC’s new studio album that will offer an exploding cocktail of 808 drums, KRAFTWERK percussions, 80’s floppy discs and other vintage personal computer souvenirs…

Effective basslines, vocoder voices, percussion sounds and 4/4 kicks: this is the sound of CUBIC.

After 2 years of exciting sonic adventures, Belgian electronic artist Franky Deblomme announces the forthcoming release of CUBIC’s new studio album that will offer an exploding cocktail of 808 drums, KRAFTWERK percussions, 80’s floppy discs and other vintage personal computer souvenirs…

In order to best prepare your ears for this new pure electronic bliss, CUBIC now releases this 4-track EP “c64” evoking nothing but the good old Commodore 64 computer – nostalgia!

The opening track “TITT” sets the tone and can somehow be described as a classic electro track with its mix of 808 style drums, a dreiklangsdimensionen snare, lots of HQ percussion sounds, analog basslines and vocoder voices. Electro boogie at its best! “OFFLINE” comes next with a more distorted sound and a hard hitting kick and its cool “Novation “bass station 2” synth feel, inviting us to all go offline in the mad mad computer world we all live in… “Art In” and its 4/4 kicks, effective bassline (Analogue Solutions ‘Fusebox synth) and classic Moog Sub 37 patch as lead sound takes us back to the sound of THE HACKER or yet COMMUTER! While the final cut “B C L” (standing for Basic Computer Language) is a sort of homage to the master of electro Anthony Rother with its 90’s like bassline made with the Modor NF-1, probably the only synthesizer ever made in Belgium!

As always with CUBIC’s distinctive sound, all tracks have been created using hardware gear only. “Nothing beats the fun of twiddling knobs”, says Franky Deblomme.

This is the sound of C-UBIC.

After two exciting stops in Frankfurt and Ghent, Belgian studio guru Franky Deblomme carries us to the final destination of his “Exit” sonic journey: Manchester!

With the conceptual approach of revisiting his personal past influences, this time CUBIC brings us to the aftermath of the rave scene in which Manchester was a pioneering scene introducing emerging influential acts in the likes of ORBITAL, SYSTEM 7, 808STATE or yet APHEX TWIN, all of which shaped the foundation of CUBIC’s music roots.

The opener “Atlantic State” immediately evokes the early 90’s with its early 808STATE type of atmosphere: chill vibe, summer feeling, breakbeats… Pure nostalgia! The rave party continues then with the 2 “Polygon” tracks bringing us closer to ORBITAL and the unavoidable APHEX TWIN!

The EP then gets augmented by a floor packing remix by Peter Bellaert (known as MINIMALISTIX and also his recent retro-House project RETRO BELGICA) that could nicely fit in a DJ set list of MACEO PLEX or KOLSH. Last but not least comes the second remix by LECTREAU, the solo-project of Passenger A of METROLAND fame.
