Wow! Here we get to experience no less than 24 tracks, completely remixed and transformed from their original electro / dance / industrial form into what can only be described as a magical musical tour of Retro Electro 80‘s sounds and Synthwave music. 

Inspired by the recent resurgence in 80’s inspired Synthwave sounds emanating from instrumental themes for such hit tv shows such as Netflix’s Stranger Things, here we hear similar sounds accompanied by catchy and thought-stirring vocals – Some in vocoder form, others clean and clear and a variety of male, female and even some vocaloid vocals. 

Some fan favourites are amongst the tracks getting the remix treatment, not least ‘Gone ‘Together Again’’, ‘Reasons’, ‘Love Changes Everything’ and ‘Stronger’. You will love the upbeat sound and energy in tracks such as ‘The Future’ (it really is so dreamy!) and ‘Return to Eternity’ where the original spoken vocals resonate throughout the track accompanied by lovely 80’s drums and synths. Also worthy of mention is ‘Cry’ where in its original form is a slow melancholic track yet in this remixed state sounds positively bubbly and optimistic. While tracks such as ‘Particles of Love’ and ‘Don’t Let Go’ now contain an even more uncanny sci-fi sound again paying homage to their original incarnations. 

This album breathes fresh, new life into some already delightful tracks offering a wonderful alternative to their original form and allowing us to hear some STUDIO-X vs. SIMON CARTER and SD-KRTR tracks in a retro state. 

To really appreciate and for the truly immersive synth listening experience, headphones are fully recommended!

This debut album offers you a timeless journey through sound taking you from catchy upbeat energetic synthpop songs (“The Only One”, “Looking At You”, “The Girl From The Station”) to poignant heartfelt slower tracks with some breakbeat and disco elements (“A thought Lost in Time”, “Don’t Go”, “You’ll Never Stray”, “Cry”). But SD-KRTR of course also stands for club-friendly dance-floor slammers with catchy choruses and these are duly delivered courtesy of outright club hits such as “Rise”, “Eternity” and  “Dreams”. We also notice the “Naphill Atrebas” intermezzo’s which reinforce the sound diversity of this opus, a series of trance instrumental powerhouse tracks nicely fusing some stunning melodic piano-driven breakdowns with exploding blissful dance synths and sensual beats and rhythms.

With his SD-KRTR project, Simon D. Carter is truly breaking new ground, writing slightly more commercial and pop-esque songs than he ever has so far, whilst still very much remaining electro based and hard driven. An album particularly recommended for open-minded fans of synthpop and dance/trance who will surely enjoy this cocktail of edgy modern electronics, alluring catchy female vocals and emotional catchiness.

“Rise”, the title-song of this new 5-track EP is absolutely the perfect example of this! A cleverly constructed fist-pumping dancefloor slammer which contains all the explosive elements of an uplifting modern trance track augmented with dark undertones and powerful, emotive, heart-felt vocals courtesy of HELALYN FLOWERS leading lady, n0emi Aurora. A song with an infectious chorus that infiltrates your mind in no time and has you singing along whilst jumping on the dancefloor! This instant club-hit also gets released as an entirely different “Retro Version” giving more space to 80’s synths and drums, while Brazilian label-mates AESTHETISCHE have crafted a typically classy dance remix of “Rise” displaying their wonderful signature sound in full force!

We then also get an almost 9 minute long instrumental monster “Judgement Day”, a throwback to the 90’s style of epic-length upbeat electronic instrumental tracks. And the cherry on the cake, the fast-paced and hi-energy “The Only One”, a futuristic sounding synthpop song (featuring Patricia on vocals) that wouldn’t be completely out of place on a LA ROUX album!
