It was in June 2014 when Alfa Matrix proudly presented the first EP “We Are Watching” of their amazing new signing from Singapore: COSMIC ARMCHAIR. Since then, the talented duo of Cosmic Jane (singer / songwriter) and Cosmic Ben (producer / arranger) have continued expanding their sonic conquest to the world through numerous live performances across Asia, several radio and TV shows and more and more international collaborations (remix and featurings) as well as contributions to high-profile compilations (with among others tribute cover versions of THE CURE and FRONT 242), including the international success of their latest club hit “I Don’t Belong Here”.

Fresh from their recent performances in Tokyo, Chiba, and Singapore, COSMIC ARMCHAIR are finally ready with their much anticipated first full length album “Contact”, revealing the band’s unique blend of synth-pop / electro dance / EDM / New Wave with sensual catchy female vocals.

Evoking comparisons with bands like DEPECHE MODE, PET SHOP BOYS, GOLDFRAPP, but also LA ROUX, SAINT ETIENNE, THE SOUNDS or yet CHICANE, COSMIC ARMCHAIR brilliantly mix less-is-more moody synth pop tunes with ethereal vocals and other more aggressive modern electro house dance floor tracks. They deliver compelling relentless catchy tunes revealing the band’s self-assured club determination at its best like “I Don’t Belong Here”, “Conversations”, “Just One Look”, as well as the euphoric “Higher” or the more frontal and hammering EBM/future pop cuts “When Will You Learn” and the almost destructive “Cannonballs”.

Alfa Matrix proudly presents its amazing new signing from Singapore (!!): COSMIC ARMCHAIR. Already very well established in Asia through numerous live performances, radio and TV shows and various international collaborations, the time has come for the talented duo of Cosmic Jane (singer / songwriter) and Cosmic Ben (producer / arranger) to expand their sonic conquest to the world…

Often compared to bands like LA ROUX, GOLDFRAPP, DEPECHE MODE, THE SOUNDS or yet CHICANE, COSMIC ARMCHAIR now release their first EP “We Are Watching” with Alfa Matrix revealing their unique blend of synth-pop / electro dance / EDM / New Wave with sensual catchy female vocals. If their meticulous songwriting skills literally shine through modern, moody and highly melodic songs like “Conversations” and “Don’t Leave Me Here”, the 3 next club mixes move onto innovative dance realms and are all clearly aimed at the dancefloor, pushing Cosmic Jane’s fragile and emotional voice to the front while the up-paced dance/house beats intelligently underline the carrying synthetic melodies. And if the club mix of “Conversation” is bound to become an unavoidable radio and club classic, “Marching Of The Days (club mix)” shows the hardest side of the band with a very hammering EBM beat, Asian vocal samples, menacing bass lines and loopy virulent synth attacks, while “Cross The Lines (club mix)” confirms the eclectic music style of the band with its sampled guitars, its melodic grandeur and Cosmic Jane’s darker side.

A strong debut EP that will definitely attract the spotlights onto COSMIC ARMCHAIR in anticipation of the release of their forthcoming full length album announced for later this year… Let the modern e-pop sound of this Singapore duo charm you!

This EP is only available as a download via Bandcamp (see player below).

Here comes an exciting combination of 80’s ethereal synth pop with house-dance beats made in Asia! Their previous club-friendly EP “We Are Watching” brought them comparisons to bands in the likes of SAINT ETIENNE, GOLDFRAPP, LA ROUX, CHICANE or yet DELERIUM in their trance/dance era. Today, Singapore based duo COSMIC ARMCHAIR return with a new 5-track EP full of compelling dance beats, ethereal female vocals and melodic synth leads.

“I Don’t Belong Here” is a relentless catchy tune revealing the band’s self-assured club determination at its best. This song has the privilege of being remixed by legendary Trance Republic DJ FXH (Felix X Hoo) for an awesome upbeat radio edit and by one of Singapore’s most famous deep house DJ Brendon Pereira (resident at club Kyo and superclub Zouk) for an extended floating dub mix.

The EP also holds the more synthpop oriented song “Just One Look” and ends up with a lighter version of “Marching Of The Days” compared to its club mix we discovered on the previous EP, and which adds some more sound cohesion to the EP with its euphoric clubby touch and carrying melodic leads… This is alternative dance pop music with an edgy commercial appeal…

This EP is only available as a download via Bandcamp (see player below).

Everyone born between 1970 and 1980 has undergone a THE CURE brainwashing, voluntary or not, filled with genius songwriting pearls by Robert Smith & co. Whereas other bands that grew up alongside with them ended up with albums that no longer stand the test of fandom, THE CURE has been able to maintain an overall quality throughout the years, constantly offering unforgettable extended live shows made of nostalgic classic mixed with newer songs, and always reminding us that the unique “THE CURE magic” has remained intact!

Today the Alfa Matrix label roster is paying homage to this great and unique band: THE CURE, choosing classic radio hits but also songs that are less known to the public-at-large but which deserve even more to be heard again, showing that the songs written by Robert Smith and current/ex-members also lend themselves to different music style treatments… All electronic music genres have their very own ambassadors on this 31-track double CD compilation from electro dance to pop rock through dark elektro and modern EBM. Compiled by and for THE CURE fans, “A Strange Play – a tribute to The Cure” will offer you astounding interpretations of classic hits like “A Forest” (MARI CHROME), “Just Like Heaven” (LOVELORN DOLLS), “Charlotte Sometimes” (KANT KINO), “Lullaby” (CYNICAL EXISTENCE), “The Walk” (STAR INDUSTRY), “The Lovecats” (JUNKSISTA), “Fascination Street” (ZOMBIE GIRL), “Lovesong” (SEBASTIAN KOMOR), “Close To Me” (METROLAND), “Pictures Of You” (DIFFUZION), “Why Can’t I Be You” (PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE), etc. But some Alfa Matrix bands also dug deeper within THE CURE’s huge discography and vast repertoire of songs, covering tracks like “In Your House” (ALIEN VAMPIRES), “Jumping Someone Else’s Train” (KANT KINO), “Cold” (TOTEM OBSCURA), “The Drowning Man” (TECHNOIR), “A Strange Day” (AIBOFORCEN), Lament (MONDTRÄUME), “The Figurehead” (SCHWARTZBLUT), “A Night Like This” (XMH), “The Baby Screams” (ARMAGEDDON DILDOS), “Fight” (I:SCINTILLA), “Anniversary” (AESTHETISCHE), “Burn” (HELALYN FLOWERS & ESSENCE OF MIND), “Friday I’m In Love” (COSMIC ARMCHAIR), “Prayers For Rain” (HALO IN REVERSE & REGENERATOR), “Disintegration” (AVARICE IN AUDIO), “Trust” (ACYLUM), “All Cats Are Grey” (AIBOFORCEN), or yet “Sleep When I’m Dead” (NEIKKA RPM).

THE CURE was, is, and will continue to be a major influence and reference, conscious or not, for many underground artists and music lovers. We hope that together with us you will rediscover THE CURE in a way you didn’t expect, cruising through their vast catalogue in different soundscapes but always remaining faithful to the band’s darker sound.
