The 66.6 concept was born…

DANIEL B. of course took the challenge with open arms, joined hands with his good old friend Elko Blijweert who added some hypnotic psychedelic guitars to the work. He this time reinvented solid FRONT 242 classics like “Welcome To Paradise” and “Funkhadafi”, but also turned “Sfr. Nomenklatura” into a stunning mesmerizing hammering club hit, while offering us a new grinding and oppressive DANIEL B. cut aptly titled “The End Of The End”.  Over half an hour of messy addictive electronics in a luxurious darkish 4-panel digipak release for your ultimate pleasure.

Together with DANIEL B. we decided to celebrate his 66^th birthday by releasing this surprising and totally unexpected “Six+Six” album. During a 46+ minute long sonic journey through the artist’s prolific career, DANIEL B. revisited a selection of songs he wrote for FRONT 242 or MALE OR FEMALE by re-filtering them through his limitless sonic kaleidoscope anno 2020!

Meticulously selected to best fit the set-up of a new upbeat live-DJ concept of DANIEL B/PROTHESE that received raving reviews at its inauguration in Belgium in February 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic settled in and disrupted the world, leading to the cancellation of all other festival dates, these songs get now officially released to the world in studio format… 

When you define making music as “organizing noise”, it’s no surprise that DANIEL B. always used studio moment accidents as starting points for his sound design and assembling process, relentlessly stretching his machines to their utmost limits for the most passionate, messy and addictive final result! An uncompromising creative attitude that simply commands respect.

Taking challenge after challenge, project after project, without any constraint nor restriction, DANIEL B. this time took the challenge of simply reinventing himself! Picking old-time personal favorites like “Happiness”, “Neurobashing”, “Seq666” and MorF’s club hit “Skeleton Toy” and bringing them to the next instrumental level. Fusing intricate sequences, adding dynamic noise and dense atmospheres and bringing these hypnotic and addictive rhythms to reach the ultimate peak where trance, electro, intelligent techno, and body music merge to make one and give you that hi-energy punch in the ears that makes you scream for more! “99.9” is an eccentric musical biotope that evolved from a close collaboration between Daniel B. PROTHESE (Front 242, Nothing But Noise, Male Or Female) – elektronik – and Edwin Vanvinckenroye (Troissoeur) –  violin and vocals.

Edwin’s unique acoustic energy fused with Daniel B.’s sharp electronic sound architecture creates a wide range of colours and generates depth. The music starts with the sound of old synthesizers and acoustic/classical instruments played in an unusual way. The music sits somewhere inbetween contemporary neo-classical world, ambient and electro-folk. The central ideas are variation and expressiveness. New compositions are formed out of repetitive elements, which have a compelling and intoxicating effect on the listener. “99.9” mixes songs, trance and sound design with a subtle hint of noise: acoustic passion paired with steaming energy. Not hard, yet gripping. Not evasive, yet accessible. The result oversteps the borders of genre. The energy is essential. And the intense communication between the ‘clashing’ musicians. The new year 2018 will start straight into it with the release of DANIEL. B. PROTHESE’s new album “CHZWaaR+ZMe+aaL” which will once again be released in several formats: a clear transparent vinyl edition limited to 300 copies only (with carton sleeve CD included and exclusive poster), a stand-alone digi-sleeve CD edition and last but not least a deluxe double-CD edition with an exclusive 8-track bonus disc. Music collectors will also notice that our dear friends of Wool-E are also once again simultaneously issuing a tape of DANIEL B. PROTHESE limited to only 111 copies. Once again, the music on CD, vinyl (and tape) are part of a whole, with different tracks on each medium, aptly chosen to best match with the specific playback conditions offered by each medium…

PROTHESE reveals a less experimental and much more rhythmic side of the project with powerful minimal industrial sequences sometimes even coming closer to the rough basslines of EBM. “It is my take on ebm… Electronic .B. Music”, says Daniel B. laughing. “It is a mix of new and old formulas, I wanted to go back in time but at the same time not really sound retro. I tried to explore new ways to make that kind of music and make it sound less like the “schlager gothic” it has sometimes become…”.

Mind-boggling loud bass lines, incisive aggressive electro sequences, noisy percolating bleeps, oppressive dense atmospheres, hammering drum attacks, experimental industrial noise… “CHZWaaR+ZMe+aaL” is a bit of all this together with the unique sharp production skills of electronic music pioneer Daniel B.

Since the early 80’s, FRONT 242’s ever-growing fanbase has always proven to be the 5th member of the band. A unique communion between fan and artist that has grown and matured over the course of 3 decades. An interactive relationship that has displayed its intensity during every “tour de force” live performance where the energy of the audience seamlessly unites with the energy of the band, together creating an incredible experience. 

On December 6th 2008 Patrick Codenys, Daniel B., Jean-Luc De Meyer and Richard Jonkheere offered their very first live moments in the band’s history in Budapest, Hungary. Originally released on DVD, the material has now been remastered for your ultimate audio pleasure.

In 2016, Belgian electronic music pioneers FRONT 242 celebrate the band’s 35th anniversary year of existence. Besides some highly praised 242 collector items released over the last few months, we had also promised some more very special “anniversary” surprises… Well, here we are!

We proudly present you today the very first full-length release by Daniel B.’s solo-project which was actually initiated even before FRONT 242 was born: DANIEL.B. PROTHESE.

“Überlastung” is released as a deluxe box-set subtitled “AIIHB0A0” and strictly limited to 300 copies worldwide. Included are  2 vinyls (the “Spannung” clear orange colour 12” LP and the “Unterbrechung” clear green colour 7” vinyl) both featuring exclusive material, plus a  digi-sleeve double-CD. Music collectors will also notice that our dear friends of Wool-E are also issuing simultaneously a tape MfMTV3 “2006-2010 ” of DANIEL B. PROTHESE limited to only 111 copies.
The music on the CD’s and the vinyls are very complementary and quite different, aptly chosen to best match with the specific playback conditions offered by each medium…

For this release-project, DANIEL.B. PROTHESE stands for minimal noise and randomly or lfo’s generated rhythmic electronic sound manipulations. Also note that each new release-project by PROTHESE is approached in a totally different fashion, so we can simply expect the unexpected without any particular focus on one specific sound style in the future…

“The project started as noise for personal pleasure”, Daniel B. says. This release is a collection of tracks shaped and mixed between approximately 1995 and 2010. “The recording process was one of voluntary limits, no use of midi, only analogue (some really old) sound generating equipment and sequencer, no more than 8 recorded tracks… and a few digitally mistreated drum sounds were also used, that’s all!” Daniel B. explains.

Vintage sound machines lovers will recognise noise bleeps generated by the following studio equipment all making a part of Daniel B.’s personal collection: formant modular, system 101-102, system 100M, roland se 505, boss rvb 100, moog voyager anniversary #614, electro harmonix sequencer drum, yamaha 40m  #Z699, mfb synth II, Sherman filter model 1 # 909, arp odyssey…
