Following the resonating return of CUT.RATE.BOX with new music and renewed live activity, the retrospective collection “Maps of Stone” reignited interest in the project’s long-unavailable back catalogue. Rather than simply reissuing these recordings, G. Wygonik chose to revisit and remaster them, adding bonus material and rebuilding each release with brand-new conceptual artwork.

Released simultaneously, the four albums / EP’s forming the “redux” series reconnect past and present – restoring key moments of the CUT.RATE.BOX discography while preserving the raw emotion, tension, and experimental spirit that defined the project from the beginning.

Blending dark electro, industrial noise, atmospheric guitars, and melodic EBM influences, CUT.RATE.BOX evolved through the years from abrasive underground electronics inspired by acts like SKINNY PUPPY and MENTALLO & THE FIXER toward a more cinematic and melodic sound recalling HAUJOBB, COVENANT, ASSEMBLAGE 23 or VNV NATION – always driven by G. Wygonik’s emotional intensity and sharp lyrical perspective.

Originally released in 2000 on Gashed! Records, “New Religion” was the first full-length album created by the core duo of G. Wygonik and Clint Sand. Combining harsh electronics with strong melodic hooks, the album quickly became a breakthrough release for CUT.RATE.BOX, with tracks like “New Religion” and “Misery” receiving heavy college radio support and pushing the band into the CMJ Top 10 for eleven consecutive weeks.

The album also led to performances at CMJ’s “Music Marathon” in New York alongside ASSEMBLAGE 23 and longtime allies BEBORN BETON, while Germany’s Accession Records helped expand the band’s audience internationally. Following the closure of Gashed! Records, “New Religion” was later reissued in 2005 by WTII Records.

For this 2026 “redux” edition, the album has been fully remastered and slightly restructured, highlighting the balance between aggressive electronics, emotional songwriting, and cinematic atmosphere that defined this era of CUT.RATE.BOX.

Bonus material includes a previously unreleased alternate version of “In Your Eyes” featuring Stefan Netschio from BEBORN BETON, a demo version of “New Religion,” a remix of “Restless” by TORRENT VACCINE, and two live intro pieces originally used to open the band’s concerts around 1999–2000.

Blending dark electro, industrial noise, atmospheric guitars, and melodic EBM influences, CUT.RATE.BOX evolved through the years from abrasive underground electronics inspired by acts like SKINY PUPPY and MENTALLO & THE FIXER toward a more cinematic and melodic sound recalling HAUJOBB, COVENANT, ASSEMBLAGE 23 or VNV NATION – always driven by G. Wygonik’s emotional intensity and sharp lyrical perspective.

Originally released in 1999, “Blueiceblack” was the first CUT.RATE.BOX recording created after G. Wygonik’s move to New Orleans. The album also marked the beginning of his collaboration with former EX-VOTO guitarist Clint Sand, combining noisy electronics, sharp synth programming, atmospheric guitar work, and bleak lyrical themes into a uniquely tense and emotional sound.

Recorded in a modest home studio setup and mixed live to DAT, the original material carried a rough and unstable character that became part of its identity. For this 2026 “redux” edition, G. Wygonik revisited the recordings using modern restoration and AI-assisted mastering tools, bringing greater depth and clarity while preserving the album’s original harshness and atmosphere.

Songs from “Blueiceblack” were heavily featured during the band’s performances at Nothing Records’ “Night of Nothing” events alongside NINE INCH NAILS, POP WILL EAT ITSELF and PRICK.

This expanded edition also includes three 1998 bonus tracks: the previously unreleased “Black Mirror”, the militant “SUPPRESS,” originally written for an animal-rights benefit compilation, and a dub-inspired remix of “Disease” by producer Gregory Butler.

Originally released in 2001, “Dataseed” became CUT.RATE.BOX’s first internationally distributed release and captured G. Wygonik’s bleak – and now strikingly prophetic – vision of the internet’s growing influence on society. Themes of technological dependence, corporate control, toxic masculinity, religion, and social decay ran throughout the album, alongside references to Wygonik’s research into nanotechnology and his work as a designer.

Pushing beyond the more direct club-oriented sound the band had become known for, “Dataseed” embraced a more conceptual and atmospheric approach. Extended tracks like “Dataseed” and “Enigma” explored slower builds and cinematic tension, while “Enigma” also featured the ethereal vocals of Victoria Lloyd from CLAIRE VOYANT.

Fully remastered, this “redux” edition gathers together material previously scattered across regional editions, including both the US and EU versions of “Thin Ice”, plus remixes by ASSEMBLAGE 23, STROMKERN, and DJ Tony Estrada. Bonus tracks also include early demo versions of “Ego” and “Radical,” revealing alternate lyrics and different creative directions before the songs reached their final form.

Although originally released in 2017, the material on “Xenophobe” was written much earlier, during 2005–2006, and was initially intended to become the next full-length CUT.RATE.BOX album. Those plans changed dramatically after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, when G. Wygonik lost his home and nearly all of his possessions – with only his music studio surviving the disaster.

The EP captures the emotional aftermath of that period. While “Slip Away” reworked unused lyrics originally written for G.’s collaboration with Alex Matheu from NEGATIVE FORMAT into a melancholic synth-driven song, the following instrumental pieces – “Breach”, “Loss”, “Letting Go” and “Gone” – were composed in the haze of displacement, grief, and forced reinvention after leaving New Orleans behind. Sparse, cinematic, and emotionally heavy, these tracks were conceived more as emotional snapshots than traditional songs.

Fully remastered, “Xenophobe redux” restores these recordings with greater depth and clarity while preserving their fragile and deeply introspective atmosphere.

This expanded edition also includes bonus tracks such as an unreleased version of “Aperture” and “Fearful,” originally created for a friend’s video-editing competition entry.

After the striking comeback of the “Luxury Anxiety” EP – which reactivated a dormant cult following while drawing in a new generation of listeners – CUT.RATE.BOX now turns the lens inward with “Maps of Stone”, an unconventional retrospective that feels less like a compilation and more like a guided excavation.

Spanning 23 fully remastered tracks and nearly four decades of creation, “Maps of Stone” unfolds as a sonic flashback adventure, moving backwards from the project’s latest 2025 releases to its raw late-80s origins. Along the way, it traces the evolution of G. Wygonik’s unmistakable voice through shifting technologies, genres, and emotional states – from modern melodic future pop and EBM (evoking HAUJOBB, COVENANT, ASSEMBLAGE 23 or yet VNV NATION) to early dark industrial, noisy electronics, and tape-saturated experiments steeped in North American underground influences such as SKINNY PIPPY and MENTALLO & THE FIXER.

Far from a safe “best of”, this collection dives deep into the architecture behind the myth: alternative versions, demo recordings, rediscovered lost tracks, and previously unreleased material reveal CUT.RATE.BOX in constant motion – angry, introspective, political, melancholic, and fiercely independent. For longtime fans, it’s a rewarding recontextualization of a beloved back catalogue; for newcomers, it’s a rare opportunity to experience the full trajectory of an artist who helped shape – and was shaped by – the dark electro and industrial underground.

“Maps of Stone” is memory, noise, melody, and persistence – a testament to continuity through change, and proof that CUT.RATE.BOX was never frozen in time, only waiting for the signal to return.

CUT.RATE.BOX is broadcasting again.

CUT.RATE.BOX fractures the signal once more with “Catastrophes? Absurdity!”, a blistering new remix EP that twists the core of “Luxury Anxiety” into unexpected new shapes. Friends, allies, and long-time conspirators dismantle and reassemble the originals into wildly divergent sonic mutations – anything but catastrophic.

From the acid-soaked hypnosis of HYPNO SOUND SYSTEM, the precision-cut minimalism of CASSANDRA COMPLEX, and NUDA’s sculpted noise assault, to NEGATIVE FORMAT’s anthemic club surge, TSP-9’s sleight-of-hand electrocraft, and EL ECTRO’s razor-edged circuitry, each rework pushes the CUT.RATE.BOX universe deeper into distortion, tension and surprise.

Completed with extended and alternate versions of “Fireshine” and “Isticism”, this EP captures the chaos, humor, and deliberate absurdity embedded in G. Wygonik’s modern-era output. If you listen closely, you might even hear him dancing in the debris.

“Catastrophes? Absurdity!” – a remix EP where everything falls apart beautifully.

Highly recommended for fans of cutting-edge melodic electronics with an edge, in the vein of HAUJOBB, COVENANT, ASSEMBLAGE 23 and VNV NATION.

CUT.RATE.BOX is broadcasting again.

After two decades of silence, CUT.RATE.BOX broke the static in June 2025 with the striking comeback single and video clip “Reel Life” – a manifesto for the digitally disillusioned and an instant future-pop/EBM club hit. Now, the visionary electronic project founded by G. Wygonik in 1989 delivers its full conceptual statement with “Luxury Anxiety”, a four-part operetta for the modern age.

“Luxury Anxiety” channels collapse, resignation, anger, ambivalence, and sorrow into a tense and emotional journey where techno-pop hooks clash with searing electronic punk, and synthpop sensibilities refract through a cold, modern lens. Drawing on influences like CABARET VOLTAIRE, WIRE, TONES ON TAIL and BRIAN ENO, Wygonik sculpts a dense, synthetic soundtrack for a world fraying at the seams. Across its four interconnected tracks, the EP flows from the restless urge to burn everything down, to the hypnotic spell of alt-fact language, through the curated addiction and unraveling explored on “Reel Life”, and finally into a mournful yet faintly hopeful elegy for lost civility.

Accompanied by a hyper-cut generative video for “Isticism”, the EP expands the thematic and sonic universe hinted at in “Reel Life”. Where past CUT.RATE.BOX classics like “New Religion” and “Dataseed” warned of a coming storm, “Luxury Anxiety” stares directly into the wreckage of the now, finding both rage and beauty there.

Highly recommended for fans of cutting-edge melodic electronics with an edge, in the vein of HAUJOBB, COVENANT, ASSEMBLAGE 23 and VNV NATION.

This is not a nostalgic comeback.

It’s a reawakening.

CUT.RATE.BOX is broadcasting again.

After two decades of silence, CUT.RATE.BOX breaks the static.

Founded in 1989 by G. Wygonik, CUT.RATE.BOX made its mark as a visionary force in the industrial and electronic underground, fusing sharp lyrical critique with cutting-edge sonic experimentation. Sharing stages with acts like NINE INCH NAILS, PIGFACE, DIE WARZAU or yet COVENANT, and releasing genre-defining work through Gashed!, WTII and Accession Records, the project gained a loyal following for its forward-thinking take on synth-laced EBM and emotionally charged electronics.

But in 2005, everything stopped. As Hurricane Katrina shattered G.’s world, both physically and mentally, CUT.RATE.BOX went silent. Now, twenty years later, G. Wygonik returns — scarred, sharpened and more creatively awake than ever.

The new single “Reel Life” marks the powerful rebirth of CUT.RATE.BOX. Released for free (pay as you wish) via Bandcamp, it offers a dark and unflinching reflection of our modern age: overstimulated, algorithmically manipulated, and emotionally anesthetized. Musically, the track is a tense fusion of dense electronic punk, EBM rhythms, and synthpop unease — drawing on influences like CABARET VOLTAIRE, WIRE and Brian Eno, while embracing modern production and generative tools as instruments of expression, not novelty.

More than just a song, “Reel Life” comes to life through a visually arresting video clip — a speculative vision of a society worshipping algorithmic idols. Set in a stylized small-town dystopia, the video follows four personas lost in a curated illusion, as a synthetic preacher delivers a sermon built from deepfaked scripture and data-driven dogma. Symbolism and generative visual glitches blur fiction and truth, reflecting the song’s core message: in a world shaped by content and driven by rage, even reality has become performative.

“Reel Life” continues the ideological arc of previous landmark releases like “New Religion” and “Dataseed”. Where those songs looked forward — at the promises and perils of global connectivity — “Reel Life” confronts the aftermath: belief systems fed by algorithms, truth fragmented by spectacle, and attention hijacked by emotional manipulation.

This is not a nostalgic comeback. It’s a timely reawakening. A manifesto for the digitally disillusioned. A necessary voice in an age of synthetic noise.
